Hocus Pocus....

When I want to get your student's attention, I say "Hocus Pocus" and the students respond with "Everybody Focus." They immediately put their hands on top of their heads and put their attention on me. Unfortunately, a magic trick happened on me this weekend and Miss Brown cannot talk. I have tried everything from hot tea, to Tylenol, to cough drops. This voice will simply not move above a whisper.
For this reason, I will not officially teach tomorrow. Your student will have a substitute teacher. I believe it will be Mrs. Kelly. I will, however, pop into the classroom throughout the day to ensure that  our students are working hard on our mission of Destination 2025.  Our focus tomorrow will be on contextual sentences and main idea. When your student gets home, ask them how to figure out what a word they do not know means. Ask them to provide a summary of the stories that they read.
Your students should bring their graded test from last week. They may take this assessment home and correct their mistakes, on a separate sheet of paper, and turn it back into me by Thursday. I will give them partial credit.
It is unclear of when I will get my voice back. However, I will teach on Tuesday, regardless of the condition of my voice. I know that we are all stakeholders in the education of our students, and I am willing to work around a minor voice issue in order to teach. Let's keep working hard on our literacy skills. Also, your student will begin learning the fifty states this week. Quiz them at home, to see how many they already know. They have a map of the USA in the back of their agendas. Happy Learning!
