Happy Friday!

Happy Friday, Cromwell Families!

It is Friday again and I am so excited about the week we had. This week we talked about global warming and its negative effects on the glaciers in Antarctica. Next week, we are going to continue our study on Antarctica by talking about--- penguins. Ask your student why these unique little creatures are so special.
Next week, we will also begin our TNReady (formally known as TCAP) testing. It is very important that students are eating breakfast and getting a good night's sleep, everyday. We will begin testing in the area of Social Studies, Families, ask your student to review different maps and Social Studies concepts. Below is a list of key concepts that students should review over the next week:

  • Map of the United States
  • World map: continents and oceans
  • Reading an import and export graph
  • Map of Tennessee
  • The different types of government: Oligarchy, Absolute Monarchy, Democracy, and Parliamentary
  • Three branches of government and their responsibilities: Legislative, Judicial, and Executive

Be looking for mini-report cards coming throughout the week. If students are failing a subject, I am sending them home with a report card. They will have one week to make up any missing assignments. Also, we do not have school next Friday, February 12 and next Thursday, is parent-teacher conferences. I would love to sit and talk with all families.

Best wishes,
Miss Brown

Happy Monday

Happy Monday!

This week we are focusing on author's point of view. RI. 3.6 Distinguish their point of view from that the author of the text. We are also continuing our study of Antarctica. Students need to be able to know what the author is saying and how they view a story. They also need to know how to describe the effects of global warming.

Questions to Ask your Student:

  • What is the story about?
  • How does the author feel about the text?
  • How do you feel about the text?
  • What is global warming?
  • How can we prevent global warming?
  • What are the components of an opinion essay?

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, Third Grade Families!

We are back in school and we are hitting the ground running. I hope that you all had a very restful break, and are ready to learn. Families as you review your students' report cards this week, keep in mind that we only have two more terms to go. Learning is really heating up in the classroom and we are focusing on "writing, writing, writing." You will notice that we will have more homework in quantity and quality. It is important that students are completing these assignments on time, as no late work will be taken. Also, attendance is important, in order to learn, we must be present and engaged. Let's continue to rock these Common Core Standards and show our Cougar Pride.

Best Wishes,
Miss Brown
